I got to be honest, that is a badass looking trike! He caught on to it really quick. Great job Ethan!

I am a bit nervous about him getting faster though...

Let him be free! He looked so happy in those videos. Of course with supervision. He looked at peace when riding on it :)

Definitely doesn't look like your baby brother/sister's trike does it?

Agreed. Planning on letting him race in Special Olympics cycling in the spring. It will be a closed course race and he'll be able to go as fast as he can :D

Rock on! Yeah that would be great. What camera were you using to film? The strafing was really good!

Just an iPhone. YouTube detected that it was shaky and they have a tool to stabilize it so I ran it through that. Because his friend lives on a culdesac it enabled me to stand in the middle while he basically rode around me.

It looked fantastic, and very professional! Also, you live in a really beautiful neighborhood. Kudos to you!

Yeah, I was surprised by his reaction to it though. It was kind of like he didn't understand that it was his, but that very well could have been the result of being overstimulated because sometimes it causes him to sort of freeze up.

People do a really good job of maintaining their homes in the area we live. It's been a real struggle for us staying in the area though because my pay went down by close to 40% after going on disability because of losing all my bonuses.

We ended up cashing out my 401k so that we could pay down debt in order to avoid losing the house.

Ah, yes the grittier side to living somewhat upper middle class. I understand that though.

Unfortunately I think that the financial issues that face people going on disability permanently are very similar regardless of where they live or what they made previously. It definitely doesn't help that Shelly has been a homemaker for most of our marriage and doesn't have a college degree. She only went back to work again about 3 months before my surgery and doesn't have anything remotely approaching the earnings potential that I had.

Unfortunately one of the other downsides to living in a nice area is that they still haven't recovered from the financial collapse to a point that makes selling feasible, combined with the financial issues that follow going on disability because of all the 10's of thousands of dollars worth of medical bills that we've had over the last couple of years and it makes it tough to move. Keeping Ethan in his current school system is a much bigger deal right now than the issues of living on a shoestring budget so with these things it will be a while before we try to move.

This definitely would not have happened without the kind donations of my friends and family and honestly it was the kindness of my friends here that I think got my family to start contributing.

Ethan is loving the trike. He actually initiated a request to ride it which is something he only does for food :D

Went on a ride that was about a mile and a half and loved every minute of it

Ethan has asked to ride his #AMBUCS #Amtryke almost every day since he got it. Safe to say that he loves it.

He has done a great job mastering it, even has the parking breaks completely figured out.

One frustrating thing for him has been getting stuck when he gets off the sidewalk and today I was able to get him to understand how to push it while steering to get it back on again and later when he got stuck again he got right off and did just what I showed him which was awesome to see :)

Sure glad that I have my scooter or I wouldn't be able to let him ride so much but can't wait to get my trike ;)

Route was about 3.5 miles, unfortunately about 1/4 mile from the house he managed to roll the trike racking up his first accident and injury. His response to pain is one of the amazing things about him because even though you could tell he didn't like it, other than being trapped under the trike with his foot stuck in the pedal he didn't make any noise at all... but he wasn't getting back on and I had to let him ride the scooter while I rode the trike.

The real test is going to be whether he asks to ride it again in the next couple of days...
